Ok, while this may seem menial and even common knowledge, buying your bridal shoes may not prove to be as easy as you think. We found these tips from TrousseauBridal.co.nz that should help make this part of the wedding planning a little easier.
1) Allow plenty of time to find your bridal shoes. Many brides think “I will buy my shoes just before my wedding” only to find that in scouring the shoe shops not one pair of white or ivory shoes can be found! This is because people very seldom choose light-coloured shoes to wear for everyday use and most shoe shops don’t stock these colours. Also, your dressmaker will require your shoes reasonably early so she knows how long to make your hem. Finding bridesmaids shoes can be even harder so the same comments apply.
2) Making the search for shoes even harder is the fact that the fit of feet varies greatly, as well as needing, in the case of bridesmaids, more than one pair in the same style.
3) In selecting shoes, you will need to consider the height of your fiancé as well as the height of your hair, veil and tiara.
4) You will need to weigh the cost of the shoe against how likely it is that they will be seen. Remember that most people will only ever see the toe of your shoe. Many brides go to great expense to get a high fashion shoe in a bridal colour when the result on the day does not justify the cost.
5) Take a piece of fabric with you when looking for shoes for colour matching. Many shoes can be dyed, but dying a darker colour to a lighter one is sometimes difficult.
6) Comfort should be a major factor in the choice of a style. You will most likely be on your feet a long time, be dancing, walk on grass, sand or loose stones. Many brides wear uncomfortable shoes to gain 1″ when they are 6″ shorter than their fiancĂ©. It is better to be comfortable and enjoy your wedding day than be uncomfortable and close the gap to 5″!
7) Many people have one foot larger than the other. Make sure you try on the shoe with your larger foot.
There are many different shapes and types of feet e.g. some are wide and short, while others are long and narrow. This means that not all shoes will fit your foot type - while you may love a particular style, it may simply be made for a different type foot than yours. This is something you (or we) can do nothing about - feel free to discuss with us your foot type and the shoes that will, or will not, be suitable for you.
9) Most people choose open toe shoes for summer weddings and closed toe for winter weddings. Think ahead as to what the weather is likely to be when you are getting married, not the weather conditions when you are choosing the shoe.
